Having been born up north (Hammond, Indiana) and spending 4 winters in Ann Arbor, I get why people like the 4 seasons. In older life, I hate frigid cold weather and can take 4-5 months of summer versus 5 months of winter. However, I do agree that Fall is a special time of the year up north as the colors of the trees often is breathtaking.
I grabbed these pictures off the internet, claiming they were from Connecticut, but regardless of where they are from, the various colors are just brilliant. I really liked the bottom one, taken on a lake with no winds. The lake acted like a mirror reflecting the colors. Wonderful. Okay, our weather is boring since we have a cut-off upper low over the Rockies and a huge surface high over the Southeast.
It's chilly under the upper low, but look how 70+ warmth has surged northward to Minneapolis & Green Bay. We will need the upper pattern to shift with the trough reforming over the eastern states for us to get more cold fronts. And they will get colder as looking at Canada and Alaska....burr!
Most of Canada is below freezing with widespread single digits covering Alaska. You know it's coming and it won't be but 5-6 weeks before we're talking about snow chances. But let's enjoy October.
This is a strong surface high (Barometer 30.30"+) that is blocking any tropical moisture from moving to the north. Nadine has moved into the Pacific with another cluster of storms over the southern Caribbean. Hurricane Oscar is stalled just east of Cuba with most models turning him to the NE and weakening.
So since The lady has sung, there really isn't much to talk about as our delightful weather will continue.
It may be time for me to go fishing? I'll place a call into Captain Hylton as Fall fishing is often the best. Stay tuned!
