Our last 2 named storms (Nadine & Oscar) show what just 4 weeks later in the hurricane season means. If those storms developed in their locations in September instead of October, we would be concerned. But I had The Lady sing last Friday because I knew what Fall Fronts and cold air does to storms. The massive high that covers the eastern states is blocking any tropical movement into the Gulf. Nadine was forced westward into Belize and dissipated while Tropical Storm Kristy has formed farther to the west.. Oscar exploded north of Puerto but just as quickly weakened over eastern Cuba once winds shear smashed him. It's hard to find him on satellite views.
Oscar makes 15 named storms and I expect another 2-3 to develop during the last 5 weeks of this season. For us, expect more dry October weather as today makes 16 days without rain. In fact, it has only rained one day (Oct. 4) when 2.02" fell at MSY. Here's why we're dry.
One upper low is lifting out of the Rockies with another replacing it just west of Seattle. That trough is making the west feel chilly while the eastern states enjoy "Indian Summer".
This warm, dry spell has brought out the best of Fall colors over the Northeast.
And the colors are not confined to the Northeast as that western upper low brought some snow to Aspen. Note the ski slopes in the background.
No snow in our forecast as we are on a warming trend that will keep us 80+ into next week.
We may go the rest of this month without any rain. With such boring weather, I'm going fishing tomorrow and Wednesday and probably won't post until Thursday. Hope you all are taking advantage of this weather as you know what's coming next month. Burrr! Stay tunned!
