As models have advertised for days, low pressure is forming just offshore from the North Carolina coast. NHC has increased chances (40%) for development into a "sub-Tropical" storm since it remains over the warmer waters of the Gulf stream. Already the Outer Banks of North Carolina are feeling beach erosion threatening to take down more vacation homes.
Currently, there are no T-Storms around the center of circulation and it is more cold core, winter-like structure.
Since it is nearly stationary, high pressure over the Ohio Valley will drift eastward and block any movement to the north. Even if NHC doesn't give it a name (Josephine), impacts will be felt from Long Island down to the Carolinas. Already wave heights top 20 feet.
FOX Weather has been indicating all along that this will be named. What I like is the way they explain the difference between Tropical & Sub-Tropical.
Unlike local broadcasters, who are limited by time, FOX Weather goes into great details as to the WHY the forecast. I always enjoyed explaining why the forecast and not just showing the models.
Don't get me wrong, models are so much better/more accurate now that you can't ignore them. I just enjoyed going into the details of satellite & radar views, which I get to show you on my FB posts.
Currently we have a set up (Lows off both coasts) that will prevent any new cold front from reaching us this week. All the cold air is bottled up in Canada & Alaska.
Interior Alaska even has some single digit temps. For that chill to reach us, we'll need to see another dip in the Jet Stream over the Great Lakes and eastern states.
With the Nor'easter developing, expect the rest of this week to stay dry with warm days and comfy cool nights.
Finally, I was honored to be invited to the 80th celebration in the life of Susan Muller.
Her husband for 50+ years, Dr. Robert Muller, has been a dear friend for over 40+ years. He suggested we wear something semi formal black & white. As you can see, the little fella didn't come close to the dashing doctor. Check out those shoes & Hat! It was a wonderful evening to share with friends. Enjoy our great weather & stay tuned!
