The JazzFest draws not only locals but thousands of folks from around the country & the world. It truly is a showcase of our city's food & music. What a bummer to have such rotten weather on the first weekend of this year's Fest. What's worse is it appears we're in a pattern where the fronts keep coming on the weekends. A front will push through overnight bringing cooler and drier air for Monday and Tuesday. That stretch of delightful weather will start to go down hill by late Wednesday as south winds will bring back the muggies. The Fest opens again on Thursday and that day looks mostly dry, however, showers are back in the forecast for Friday continuing into Saturday & maybe even Sunday.
Our weekend rain totals have ranged from 3-4" with some isolated amounts greater than 6"+. The timing couldn't have been much worse. Lets hope our luck changes for next weekend. At least we won't have to water our new gardens for awhile !

Maybe the front won't dump as much rain?
Bob why do you always like to make it a point about your local media friends and other national TV stations hyping up hurricanes while you now are making it dramatic yourself by tossing on a hurricane season count down clock on your site? hmmm
Caveman...where have you been? The countdown clock has been a feature on this site for years. It is there as a reminder that we are approaching the time of the year when we need to pay attention to the tropics again. "Hyping" would be IF we put the clock up in December or January. Putting it up one month before Hurricane Preparedness Week (May 25-31) seems appropriate to me.
Where were you on Saturday when we DESPERATELY needed you? If it had been a weekday, you would have been on the air from 1 PM until 5 PM with updates about the weather -- but since it was a WEEKEND, you CAN'T BE BOTHERED!! You don't care about the safety and well-being of the people of New Orleans -- only YOUR OWN CONVENIENCE!!!!
Hey Mike, you are correct, I do not work 7 days a week. Saturdays & Sundays are the responsibility of our weekend meteorologist. One of the problems/short-comings at FOX 8 is we do not have any scheduled newscasts until 9 PM on the weekends. We will interupt for severe weather, but the National Weather Service didn't issue any warnings.
I appreciate your rapid reply to my comment, but why didn't the weekend meteorologist break into programming to let us know we were under severe weather? It rained over 8 inches on the westbank and my area experienced the most severe flooding since Katrina (past my sidewalk about 2 feet from my door).
Thanks again.
Mike points out something that many of you can help fix...mainly, IF the National Weather Service doesn't issued a warning and IF the public doesn't call and inform either the NWS or media that they have street flooding, then we can't report what we don't know. Sure radar helps, but hearing from local observers is critical. If you have a rain gage, call us (483-1548). We'll relay your report to the NWS.
Flooding, that was due to simply crappy drainage in your neighborhood, I'm sure it does it on a regular basis so you shouldn't have been surpised that it occured when weather forecasters put out the potential rainfall amounts for that day.
