Back in 1978, 30 years ago, we experienced the 1st of several (1978,1980,1983,1995) "hundred year floods". These floods usually happened in April or May when approaching cold fronts stalled near us keeping us under wave after wave (training effect) of T-Storms. It's still many days away, but all of the computer guidance is setting up for another wet weekend here. Will we see more flooding? Way too soon to call. I'll keep you posted as we get closer.
In the short term, Tuesday will dawn with near record coolness (52 at Audubon, 45 at MSY). The Northshore should be in the low to mid 40s with upper 40s to low 50s on the Southshore. By Tuesday afternoon the chill will be gone and by late Wednesday we'll be back above 80. Strong south winds will bring back the muggies on Thursday with rain chances increasing for Friday & Saturday.

did any of those years have active hurricane activity here? I know you are a big fan of history, so maybe you can tie two and two together. :)
I'll take a rainy weekend with flash floods anyday over Katrina.
I liked it better when you had the pic of the hail up instead of the current pic of you from 1976.
Of all the years with major floods, only 1995 had an active hurricane season in the Gulf. I wish the atmosphere operated that easily. We could just go back in history and connect the dots. In fact, 1983 was a quiet season except for Hurricane Alicia. That storm battered Houston. So even if the season is not active, if the one storm hits us, it's an active season!
Hey Bob, I dig the groovy picture from 1978. I just want to know one thing. Did you also have the matching white shoes? Thanks for maintaining this site. I access mostly from my mobile phone and it loads quickly and fits on the screen properly. Good Job.
Soon, we'll have afternoon thunderstorms everyday!
