Fay Chugging Westward, Weaker but still Wet
Latest information from the National Hurricane Center indicates Fay continues to march back to the west on a track that will take her just to our north by Sunday mid-day. That is important as it will keep us on the weaker side of this system. However, any southward shift would bring the brunt of what's left of this storm right over us. That is why beginning at daybreak on Saturday, FOX 8 will begin hourly updates to let you know the impacts on SE Louisiana expected from Tropical Storm Fay. This is not a Katrina type storm. In fact, the winds over land have been only in the 20-30 mph range tonight. The higher gusts have been over the water areas off the Florida coast. What we need to watch for is Fay's heavy rains spreading our way. RIGHT NOW, the heaviest rains are expected to stay north of Lake Pontchartrain with 1 to maybe 3" possible here in the city on Sunday and Monday. 3-6" are possible north of the Lake with 4-8" possible in interior Mississippi away from the coast. This will be a good test of our levees and pumping stations and I expect they will easily handle any problems Fay brings. See you at daybreak.

Bob; It's Mitchell Geissler from Slidell!!! I'm back in town, moved back from Maryland about a month ago... I'll likely be hanging out at my new station in Pearl River in St. Tammany Parish during the storm... Should you need any updates or idea of what's going on; don't hesitate to let me know... My email is mitchellgeissler@gmail.com and of course (not on here) but I can get you my cell number if needed.
Later...
Thank you Bob, I was 14 you came and took Nash Robert's place and boy were you hyper. We didn't know what to do with you. Now, I wouldn't listen to anyone tell me what to do in a hurricane but you. You called Ivan and as a result, our family spent a quiet weekend with an abandoned state park all to ourselves while everyone spent time in traffic lines coming home. For Katrina, we heard you say you had real concerns "about this one" as it was still leaving Florida. As a result we were ready to leave Saturday and safely waited out the storm in another state. So tell us weather guru, what's Fay up to?
