Newest info from NHC really doesn't change the thinking about Fay. In the short term, she makes landfall near Naples after midnight and moves across Florida and weakens to a Depression As she re-emerges in the Atlantic north of Cape Kennedy, NHC increases her back to a Trop. Storm and stalls her. She slowly drifts northward and turns into South Georgia and heads back to the west. This would be great news for much of the Southeast as they remain way below normal rainwise.
Here's our only concern. Watch Fay's forward speed on Tuesday. She's moving northward at 9 mph and the longer she moves that quickly, the better for us. We do not want her to move off Florida's east coast south of Daytona and then return westward and into the Gulf north of TPA. That would bring her back into the Gulf. That scenario seems to be very remote, but if you have a trip to the beaches planned this weekend...pay attention to the weather just in case.
