As our VIPIR computer model advertized last night, an unusually strong August front will push off the Louisiana coast bringing us less humid air for Saturday and most of Sunday. We'll be watching this front to see if anything develops along it as Edouard did last week. To me, if something does form, it's likely to be on the East Coast off of Florida, Georgia & the Carolinas.
In fact, it appears the tropics are taking another snooze with nothing showing up out in the Atlantic, Caribbean or Gulf. The Weather Channel and Weather Underground both are taking about "African Dust" being the current reason for little activity. Frankly, I don't care why it's quiet...I just want it to stay that way for another 4-6 weeks. By then stronger cold fronts should be coming making chances for a major storm in the Gulf less likely. Less we forget, in the first week of October in 1893 we had a Cat. 3 come ashore just west of Caminada Pass. Past history shows we can get October Hurricanes, however, after the first week, there has never been a Cat. 3 or stronger cross the Louisiana Coast. Let's hope that history remains the same.

I would very much like to know about the African dust storms..I think this condition should be part of the broadcast..if they exist, just as much as the wind patterns..anyway, it helps give somewhat of a prediction of activity. thanks, cheryl
