As predicted last night , the bloggers (caveman, moore74) would be out predicting doom & gloom about a storm well over 2000+ miles away. # 1...VIPIR is only 1 computer model to be used as guidance IF it is following reality. It did that with Fay and I used it. It did not with Gustav and I didn't use it. I find some bloggers really helpful at times, while they get outrageous because "computer models" shift track run to run. That's why you have me.
First off...yes the models today did shift Ike's track farther to the south, but most still curve it back to the north EAST of FLA. They also slow forward movement. IF Ike didn't curve soon enough and IF Ike came straight to us...we're still talking 7 days away. As I have said many times before...why waste your energy on something that may never be our problem? Sure we'll watch it. get nervous? Give me a break! Keep crying wolf and NO ONE will listen to you when it's really important.
I am in north Louisiana picking up my wife and our dogs. IF Ike becomes a potential problem
for us, I'll let you know. Right now...relax and enjoy a drier weekend and a Saint's victory on Sunday. If you enjoy watching weather people who continue to scare & frighten you, you'll have to go someplace else.

Well said... Cha ching Bob!!!
I was not predicting gloom and doom. I just evacuated with a small child, angry cat, ice chest, 2 suitcases, and a flashlight. Why would I attempt such a thing. I think you do a good job of keeping a hold on the panic, but I think you need to step back a bit, and realize people DO depend on you, and it's not at the last minute.
I agree, Bob...you can't run every time...unless it's an easy thing to do..i try to look at it as a forced vacation..but i can't force it 3 times a year...we wait and see...we've had a few quiet years, I appreciate that....Don't think I remember a line up of storms, three in a row..geessshhh...thanks for being there, Bob...who knew what you get into when you start a blog...:)
I have the ultimate respect for professional forecasters, especially when they are good. However, I believe you are totally missing the point. A blog is, by its very nature, a place for people to offer their opinions on the things people write. I have three blogs. I may not always like what people say but I also hope that readers of my blog, and others, understand that what is on the written page is my opinion and they are entitled to theirs. I hope that people are smart enough to understand the difference between opinions and fact. To everyone out here in blog land. There are ways for us all to offer our comments to blogs without being offensive or holier than though. Blog owners should also strive to provide their unbiased professional opinions and facts and thank people for their inputs and simply agree to disagree. Just my two cents. have a great night and I hope you get your wife and doggies home safe.
Bob,
There's no way for us to thank you enough for your doing what you do.
Best,
Steverson Moffat
BoB, I sure hope Ike doens't make it to the Gulf. C. Ray is running low on stupid quotes. He is considering calling Ike the "Storm of the Millenium" with a 1000 foot wide footprint. This should be able to scare at least 90% of his residents into leaving.
I did evacuate to Folsom and we had Channel 8 on the whole time. I stuck with Bob and his crew. I just found Bob put things in perspective and his years of covering storms was such an asset with Gustov.
I felt that Bob was going to guide us thru the storm no matter how it affected us.
Sometimes I don't know how you did it Bob, you sure were on the air alot...and when you found time to sleep, eat, shower, etc....was amazing...
Should Ike present a problem...eat your wheaties and I'll be watching.
Thanks for the excellent job you and yes your staff for covering the storm...your staff deserves much credit for being able to get your views on the storm relayed to us so easily.
Hi Bob! I have watched you all my life and I have been living in TX for almost 2 years now and I miss Your weather so much! I have never found any other station to be better than Fox8 New Orleans and that's because You are there. What a lucky city to have such a Great meteorologist who really cares! I never watch the news or weather here in the Houston area....I cannot find one good station! Anyway, I totally enjoy reading your blogs and I am not worrying about Ike (I always worry alot)..
BTW, it was cool over here this morning (73 degrees)...Is that the cool air you were talking about? I look forward to a nice weekend of weather here in the Houston area :)
I'm back in New Orleans!
Yay!
I can't even think about Ike right now, and really, whats the point of wasting the energy doing so?
I feel like I should have the phrase "Its too early" tattooed on my forehead.
I feel like thats what I keep repeating over and over to people who keep asking me "What are you going to do...Gustav...Ike"
IT'S TOO EARLY! ha ha
Thanks again for being there for us Bob, I think you have won the majority of us over forever!
Bob,
Thanks for all your hard work these last weeks.
And please don't lump commenters in with bloggers. To be a blogger, you have to have a blog, such as yourself.
Hi Bob! During this active hurricane season I have been checking your blog almost everyday. I'm from Slidell but will be living in Albuquerque for the next 2 years. My parents only watch you and have since I can remember. I'm just glad I can get the real story of what is going on at home through your blog. I can't thank you enough for what you do.
That's why you are my resource Bob. It's all about trust.
IKE -- As a precaution everyone might want to start thinking of plans for IKE! Models are shifting him west and into the Gulf and not to freak everyone out but there is a model which is placing IKE pretty much at the same place as Gustav. Newest update from NHC is starting to show this.
