Fall's Severe Weather Season...

November & early December usually brings a 4-6 week period of frequent cold fronts clashing with the retreating warmth of autumn creating a secondary severe weather season for us. The primary time for severe weather is February & March, but this Fall's season can be just as active. Your home should have a NOAA Weather Radio that will alert you of storms especially overnight when you are sleeping. Your local Walgreens offers a model from Midlands that costs about $30.

We have gone nearly a month without a soaking rain, but that may change late Thursday night into Friday as a cold front moves through. Showers & some T-Storms could accompany the front, but the threat for severe storms seems confined to areas far to our north. A stronger front is likely next Tuesday and that could bring us another round of heavy T-Storms.

The 2008 Hurricane Season has 3 weeks to go and it appears the 17th storm will be named (Paloma) on Thursday. He's down over the Caribbean south of the Cayman Islands and will curve to the Northeast well away from the Gulf. Historically, in modern times (1850-2008) there has NEVER been a hurricane cross the Louisiana coast in November. Water temperatures in the Northern Gulf have cooled and the Westerlies are too strong. Our next weather threats over the next several months will be Fog, T-Storms & hard freezes. We can handle those since none requires evacuations! Have your sweaters & heavy coats ready because all signs point to a very cold winter.

Thanks for the update, loved that cold weather from out last front. It had that cold crisp feeling to it and it lasted for several days.

I was surprised to see fog the other morning...and especially so thick for this time of the year. It reminded me of the fog we get in the winter months.

Bring on the rain/sleet/snow from those cold fronts..for our next two seasons....that would be Christmas Season and Crawfish Season...woohoo
