Back in 2006 I visited Grand Cayman Island on vacation. That was a year and a half after Hurricane Ivan made a direct hit and caused extensive damage. Much of the trash was gone, but you could still see the damage to many buildings. Now only 4 years later, major Hurricane Paloma, a Category 3 storm with winds to 115 mph is threatening to repeat what Ivan did back in 2004. The 2008 Hurricane Season is over for us, but there is a reason the official season gones thru the end of November. While much of the Gulf waters have cooled down, not so for the Caribbean. In fact what kills the season down over the Caribbean is wind shear as water temperatures away stay above 80 degrees. Tonight that shear is not over Paloma and she is battering the Cayman Island chain. Hopefully they have prepared for the worst.
Locally we're in store for a great weekend. Make sure you enjoy it because a pattern change is coming that will first bring us some rain and then much colder air for NEXT weekend. Dare I say FREEZING TEMPS for the Northshore by next Sunday morning? Stay tuned!

Fortunately Paloma has turned to the NE so that the brunt of the storm will miss Grand Cayman. Still, the east side of the island will get into the eyewall with winds gusting to 100+. Little Cayman & Cayman Brac won't be as lucky as they will receive the heart of the storm. Then it's on to Eastern Cuba on Saturday.
