Snow Window Closing Quickly...

Looking at latest satellite & radar loops confirm that this year's "snow event" is completely different that Dec. 11, 2008. Last year we had a slow moving closed upper low while this year we have a fast moving upper tough. Skies have already cleared at HOU and SHV and we may see that clearing reach us before sunrise. It is snowing at LCH & LFT with BTR reporting sleet/ice pellets. I haven't changed my feelings that limit any snow to a trace except north of Folsom to Picayune. The question then shifts to how cold in A.M. ? If clouds hang around, temps NS will stay 33-36, with SS 37-40. If clouds leave before daybreak, some areas on NS could drop below 32 for a short period. All in all, a very cold night as wind chills will make it feel like in the 20s. Despite all day sunshine on Saturday, highs will struggle to top 50 with near freezing again sunday morning on NS. Clouds return Sunday as a warming trend begins.

Don't be depressed that we're missing out on the snow. I believe we'll see many more of these Gulf lows develop during this "El Nino" winter and next time the colder air will already be in place before the moisture returns. Saints prediction...N.O. 45 Washington 17. It's warmer in D.C. (47) than it is here (44) tonight. Sunday's forecast sunny with temps 40-45. Gametime Sunday 12 noon only on FOX 8.

Hey Bob,

You hit the nail on the head with your forecast!! I am mad that we did not see the snow on the southshore, but that's what you said would happen. We got a few sleet pellets mixed in with a cold rain in Marrero around midnight, but thats when we ran out of moisture to work with!!!!!

You nailed it (AGAIN!) Bob :)

Here in Metairie we had a good amount of sleet mixed with rain and may be a few flurries. It was hard to tell if it was snowing or not because it was dark. Overall, a big disappointment on the Southshore. Last year you predicted snow and it snowed. This year you said only rain with a little sleet for the SS and you were right.

Bob nailed it? Umm, he said there would be no snow on the Northshore. I believe there was. Bob is my favorite forecaster and I admire his a great deal, but there's no shame in being wrong every now and then.
