Another Gulf Low Coming...

With the upper air pattern beginning to shift back to a more active southern stream, you can expect a return to a wetter regime for the next couple of weeks. The first in a series of Gulf Lows will form late Thursday. The VIPIR run tonight takes this low well south of the LA. coast meaning we will not get into the warm air sector. It starts the rain Friday afternoon and has most of it east of us by daybreak on Saturday. That would be good for Saint's tailgaiters, however, other models are much slower. Rain totals could be 1-2" and it will be a cold rain at that. Stay tuned.

So, does this mean that the weekend would not be a total washout? NWS calling for 70% rain on Saturday. How about Friday, will the rain start late or sometime on Friday during the day. No chance of sleet right?

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS BOB AND ONLYREAL?? Going to be a big visitor weekend with the Saints Playoffs in town!

WOW... We better be glad that the NAO is at least going back to a neutral state. Because if it was still Negative those -50+ temperatures in Alaska and Canada would be on a 1 way ticket to the Lower 48.

Nashette,

Thickness values will not be low enough to support any form of frozen precipitation this weekend.

Well, I see sleet in Mississippi and Alabama this morning (Thursday). I see that we are in fact in the warm air sector so all of our precipitation is and will be rain. How about this weekend? Will the rain last all day Saturday?
GO SAINTS!!!!

Nashette...no sleet in Mississippi. The radar returns never were reaching the ground. the surface high is still too dry. Upper pattern is changing so I see no more freezes in sight thru day 10 at least. Warm up means wetter pattern is coming back.

Bob,
Thanks so much for your prompt reply... As I said before, it is so nice to have a weather authority you can count on...daily.

Thanks again for being here for us New Orleanians...

Hey Bob,

What is the record for morning lows at or below freezing in New Orleans. We just had 5 or 6 in a row and I was just wondering about that. Also, any hint of the arctic air returning? I figured with an early Mardi Gras we will probably have some cold weather then. Thanks Bob!

@ONLYREAL

Yes ...tomorrow Friday, do you know if the rain will be here at 4 pm already and if heavy? I wanna do some more photography with rain downtown...Thanks!

Pompo...

4pm tomorrow looks cloudy with maybe a shower or two in the area. The bulk of the rain looks to arrive in the NOLA Metropolitan area after dark, sorry. Maybe you can take some pictures on Saturday, should be more than enough rain then.
