Heavy Coats Goodbye, Hello Umbrellas...

After a record wet December, the 1st 2 weeks of January have been very cold and mostly dry with only .24" falling at MSY. That is about to change as the well advertised upper air pattern shift is well underway. We're going back to those Gulf lows again with the 1st in a series coming here Friday night into Saturday. Most of Friday should be dry with the rain spreading in from the south after 3 PM. Heaviest rains arrive between 6 PM & 2 AM with NWS calling for 2-3". Saturday will see some lingering showers but there should be some dry periods too for Saint's tailgating. It'll remain cool but not cold with temps. in the 50s. Sunday looks much brighter as the rain pulls away. The next Gulf low approaches next Wednesday.

Time for my Saint's prediction..............Saints 38 Cardinals 24 Go Saints!!! Wear Black & Gold to work on Friday.

Hey Pompo...

I was wrong. It looks like the rain-shield should arrive in our area before 4pm. Good luck with the pictures if you still plan on taking them.

SO... i made a snow machine last weekend and we ended up with about a 20' radius of 2" to 4" of snow in my yard Sunday Morning... Even if the gulf lows don't come through, I found a way around... I have pics if anybody wants to see!! e-mail me at t_shockley@i-55.com

I payed a visit to Fox 8 today. Got to learn how to use the radar software ect. I had a really good time with Bob, Kim, and Dawn at the station. I was able to change radar animations on Live TV, I was a little nervous but I didn't mess up so I wont be nervous next time. They also had some really good cookie cake at Fox 8. Thanks so much Bob for letting me visit today and I look forward to coming back.

By the way, Hold on to your hats, New Orleans! The rain has moved out of the area for the time being, however, a strong surface low in the Gulf of Mexico is interacting with an area of high pressure over the Mid-Atlantic states which is causing wind gusts of over 50mph across the New Orleans Area. This has triggered the issuance of a High Wind Warning. There have also been scattered reports of power outages area, about 310 people are without power a block and a half away from me according to Entergy. The wind is expected to begin easing down tomorrow morning as the High to our Northeast retrogrades.

Today will be a rainy day, however, there will be some breaks in the rain. The rain will be from a surface Low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico and an associated Upper Level Low. Rainfall totals across the area should be in the 1-2" range. The Coastal Parishes could see totals as high as 3 inches of rain. Flooding is not going to be an issue as these totals will be spread out through a 36 hour period of time. You will need your umbrella for Tailgating on Saturday, but again, I do not think it will be a total washout. Temperatures should top out near 57 degrees Saturday Afternoon. The rain should taper off by Saturday Night as dryer air begins to advect into the area.

Expect tranquil weather Sunday through Tuesday as High Pressure dominates the area. Clouds and moisture will be on the increase on Tuesday night as another Low Pressure system moves in from the west. This system will bring our next shot of rain. Its too early however if whether or not severe weather will be an issue.

By the way I am forecasting a Saints win........Saints 38 Cardinals 13
