Computers Say No to Snow...

Yea I know, even tonight's VIPIR run keeps all Gulf moisture far to our south Friday and Friday night. However, satellite loops clearly show another disturbance over New Mexico rotating around the deep east coast trough. Cloud tops are brightening and radar returns are showing up, however, the air mass is so dry that much of the falling snow is not reaching the ground. So the question is...what happens "IF" Gulf moisture begins pulling back northward ahead of this approaching disturbance? Several things are certain about Friday...1) it will be very cold and windy, 2) any sunshine will be filtered by lots of high, thin clouds. The real question is will this upper disturbance bring enough moisture back over the shallow dome of cold surface air to produce any snow for us? I like what ONLYREAL said last night...20-30% possibility. Remember, most significant snows here are surprise snows. Stay tuned !

Hey Brad,

This is what Bob is talking about:
(the weather channel or gw alarmists would never admit this)

Over 1000 record lows already in 2010...

It's cold out there" is a saying that could be expressed in most of the nation this morning. In Tampa, Florida, flights were delayed because of ice -- because they have no way to remove it. But how historic is this cold wave? According to NCDC, this noteworthy cold wave has already broken or tied over 1,000 temperature records, including over 260 newly established record low temperatures. Hit us up on Facebook and let us know how cold it's been where you are, and how long it's been since you've experienced such temperatures.

Thus far in 2010 (not including today):

Low Temperatures Broken: 263
Low Temperatures Tied: 102
Low Max. Temps Broken: 525
Low Max. Temps Tied: 191

This is especially interesting since a certain television channel of weather said Tuesday "there probably will not be many record lows broken during this cold snap."

I am showing this because the Weather Channel keeps track of how many HIGH temp. records are broken. They NEVER mention low temps like they do high temps!!

Any questions?

hey Bob - The Naval Air Station had Light Snow this Morning around 4:30am... Is this a sign of what could happen this afternoon as those thicker clouds come over us???

Hey Greg,

You forgot about the record cold across the rest of the Northern Hemisphere.

I guess the point I was making is that TWC had a "chart" last year that they showed EVERYDAY during summer but now there are no charts to be seen. They are even "saying it without saying it" trying to state that our cold spell is due to the GW problem!!! I used to like TWC now I only try to watch local on the 8's from them.

Not trying to be direspectful to anyone.

ONLYREAL, Hope you had a great holiday. Take a look at the cloud cover forming over Mexico and in the GULF. Could that weak upper disturbance over SW Texas trigger some moisture and possibly give us snow flurries later this evening???
Keep us posted. You are our other source of info when Bob is busy.

Has anyone noticed the radar returns in the northwestern gulf by vermilan bay? Take this for what ever you want but It might get pretty intersting this afternoon.

... it's 12:45pm and I'm seeing snow on the radar around Morgan City... Hmmm... will some of these flakes hit the ground??? I also see the water vapor loop kick up a notch in moisture... could get interesting this evening?? you think it could be an issue, Bob? or just a few flakes that won't be a problem for travel?

There have been some radar returns along the Louisiana coast, but remember how dry the air is at the surface. Highly unlikely any flakes will reach the ground, but it certainly is cold enough. Window for that happening is between 9 PM & 3 AM. Clearing shud arrive around Dawn.
