More Intense Hurricanes Coming? Huh?

Yep, just as we're basking in the Saint's win, I'm reminded of the headlines in the Picayune saying..."More Intense Hurricanes Expected". Expected by whom? The usual AGW Alarmists who say in 80-100 years we could see more Cat. 4 & 5 storms. Really? Is this new news? Nope, been said before and refuted by none other than former NHC Director Dr. Neil Frank and Dr. Chris Landsea, lead Hurricane Researcher. Both say the research is nonsense, yet a science journal publishes this kind of can't be verified nonsense. When will the public say enough is enough. You fudge data, you restrict debate, you lie over and over...oh, and you continue to take our tax payer funded NSF grants. Shameful.

Back to the real world of Weather...this week we'll be seasonally cool to start with a brief warm up Thursday & Friday. Friday could turn stormy with much colder air arriving for the weekend. AT THIS TIME, it doesn't appear to be any worse than a light freeze on the Northshore Sat. & Sun. mornings. Hummm...31+ years at Ch. 8 is why I wear # 31. Shouda known that would be our lucky number!

LOL!!! 80-100 years? I will probably be dead and if I am still alive I will probably be too old to care. The AGW alarmists are a joke. By the way Bob, you should go check out Jeff Masters latest blog entry. The title is "Poorly sited U.S. temperature instruments not responsible for artificial warming". Even though it is nonsense whats funny is that the thermometers are still picking up the cooling trend despite their poor location.

If I were you I would enjoy this fantastic weather while it lasts because it will be gone by Thursday. Today and tomorrow weather will be nothing short of perfect. Expect sunny skies, dry air, and highs in the mid 60's. It really doesn't get much better than that.

Things begin to go sour on Wednesday night when the area of high pressure that brought us this gorgeous weather slides east and begins to put us in return flow. By the time you wake up Thursday morning Dew points will be rising at a steady pace. Also, during this time period there will be increasing cloudiness, beginning with high cirrus cloud deck; this will be the first signs of our next weather maker.

On Thursday a shortwave trough will rapidly move out of the desert southwest into the Mississippi River. This system will interact with rich gulf moisture and this will induce rapid surface cyclogenesis. A squall line will develop along the associated cold front and will move east and will eventually reach our area. The models have really the majority of the models have trended slower with the progression of this system which is more in sync with the European Model solution. This means that the system will take a little longer to reach us. Due to the aforementioned reasons, I do not expect rain on Thursday; it will likely just be a cloudy and warm day.

The squall line will move through our area on Friday. The severe weather potential does not impress me so I will leave it out. There will not be enough instability for an outbreak; however, there should at least be some thunder and lightning when it moves through. Flooding will not be an issue with this system. Rainfall totals will be quite uniform with 1-2 inches of rain across the area likely.

Skies will clear on Friday night as the system moves out and a much colder and drier air-mass advects into the area. Temperatures should fall into the 30's on Friday Night across the area. Saturday and Sunday will be sunny but chilly with highs in the 50's. Saturday night looks to be the coldest with Lows in the mid 30's on the South shore, and a light freeze on the Northshore, especially once you are north the I-12. A gradual warm up will begin next Monday as we go back into zonal flow.

Speaking of poorly placed weather instruments, would still like to see a pic of the one you mentioned prior that was poorly placed. Are not the instruments much more advanced than prior years where nearby concrete would not affect the tempature readings as they may have many years ago?

Prediction

Saints 30 Colts 21

CAVEMAN...go to www.icecap.us They had a recent story regarding the NY Central Park sensor placement. I like your prediction, except 31-24 sounds better to me. 2 straight games where our winning score is 31...same number of years I'm with Ch. 8 !
