It is looking more and more likely that we will have some heavy, possibly severe storms to deal with on Sunday. Dewpoints have risen into the 70s meaning the atmosphere is primed (lots of moisture-water vapor) and just waiting for a trigger. That trigger will be an approaching cold front with fast SW upper winds. We could see several lines of slow moving storms Sunday creating a training effect that could produce 2-4+" of rainfall. Keep up on the weather this weekend. FOX 8 will have special newscasts at noon and 5 PM Saturday covering the oil spill, but also covering the approaching weather. Of the 2 days, Saturday will be the better, but even then there will be several shower periods.
Regarding the oil spill...Saturday's winds will be SSE at 20-30 mph, Sunday SSW at 15-25 and finally switching Monday SW-W at 10-18. Behind the front on Tuesday winds shud be NW-N helping blow some of the oil back offshore. The problem won't go away until they can stop the leak.

If this extensive overcast persists for the rest of the day our shower and thunderstorm risk will be greatly limited.
Onlyreal,
If Bob is talking about slow moving thunderstorms coming in how is today's overcast going to help with tomorrow's rain and possible severe weather?
Thanks
Bob, is it possible for this oil leak to last until Hurricane Season? Hopefully not.
This leak will not be stopped for several months at best. This will be going of for many years to come even once the leak is finally stopped. Oil still washes up on shore in Alaska from Exon spill in the 80's.
Susan,
Tomorrow it won't matter if we have cloud cover or not. Tomorrow the cold front will craw into our area enhancing lift and providing focus for shower and thunderstorm activity. In addition, a surge of tropical moisture from a former tropical disturbance in the Eastern Pacific will add insult to injury. Keep a close eye on the radar tomorrow because training is a serious concern.
When do you expect it to start raining? will it rain off and on or night time?
Thanks
