TWC & VORTEX 2...Bad Example ?

Is it just me or are you bothered by The Weather Channel's use of live video chasing tornadoes? It's just a matter of time before some group of young people (with no experience nor knowledge of how fast tornadoes move) trying to get video of a tornado are surprised by a change in the track of the storm and are hit head on by the deadly winds. I have the same feelings regarding CNN, TWC & other news groups chasing hurricanes. Some day, some where there is going to be a tragedy, a death or deaths. I just get chills seeing Mike Bettis giddy about showing multiple tornadoes live. Yes, it's terrific TV, but I just feel it may spur some people to do something they are not prepared to do.

Tomorrow NOAA comes out with their Hurricane Forecast for 2010. FOX 8's annual Hurricane Special is next Tuesday 6-7 PM. If it's not the oil to make us nervous, now it's time for Hurricane Season. We will be prepared. How about you?

Bob, I wanted to ask is it possible for a developing storm or Hurricane to draw up the oil and rain it back down on us or somewhere further inland?

I never quite understood why people from the TWC have to go where the Hurricane is going so they can bring you live pictures of the tree swaying, debris flying and powerline swinging.

I remember well years ago watching Dan Rather(now there's a weatherman for you, right!!??) hanging on the a metal utility pole, down on the beaches of Florida to get the story. To show nature at its strongest. Only to have an NBC's Morning Newsman say...look there goes Dan Rather. It was a funny line but it could have happened.

There is something inside people that has to get the adrenelin flowing in these people to want to see this and get it on film. This has to be true with those Tornado Chasers....Lord knows we have enough footage on these weather events, but I guess there are still things that can be learned, good and bad.

Yep, I have a bad feeling that something will get in the Gulf and bring a lot of this oil inland. Even if the storms holdout until the peak of the hurricane season, at the rate things are going, it will be far from cleaned up.

Look forward to seeing your Hurricane Special.

Oh its getting time to crank up Jimmy Buffet's Tryin' to Reason with Hurricane Season and a couple of lines...

Squalls out on the gulfstream
Big storm's coming soon
Passed out in my hammock
God I slept till way past noon
Stood up and tried to focus
I Hoped I wouldn't have to look far
Knew I could use a bloody mary
So I stumbled next door to the bar

I agree with you that the weather reports shouldn't be done at the expense of people's lives. In the case of a tropical storm, they could at least get under an overhang or inside a building looking out the window, to get the shot. But instead, they stand in the wind and rain, to show how hard it's blowing, while advising people to be careful. I remember Ann Curry standing outdoors during Hurricane Gustav, saying that the wind was hurting her face. thanks, sp, n.o.

Dear Bob Breck: Do you know where the Bermuda High is supposed to be this hurricane season? Please say it is going to be over the Gulf the entire season. The forecasters have me extremely nervous already, but then they have been saying the same things every year since Katrina. The switch from El Nino to La Nina is confusing. El Nino has warmer waters, but La Nina has cooling of waters. Wouldn't La Nina be good since hurricanes don't like cool water? Please answer about that and about the Bermuda High location this year. Thank you.

I'm not one to spam web pages but, I've been trying to do everything I can to get this out. These guys are demonstrating how hay can be used to clean up the oil spill. It's a simple and innovative idea that uses an abundant and easily replenishable natural resource. Please check it out and share it with as many people as possible.
