We all have seen the tragedy of the BP oil leak...the 11 families dealing with lost loved ones, the thousands of fishermen without jobs, the possibility of many more jobs lost throughout the oil service industry not to mention all the dead animals. A true catastrophe that shows no end in sight.
As I do every June, I ventue over to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach to recharge my batteries before tropical weather increases my stress. How sad to see the oil reach the Gulf beaches. Oh yea, not as bad as seeing the oil killing our marshes, but here's what I saw that BP can't compensate. A family of 5 from Tennessee with 3 youngsters under 10 who wanted to play in the sand and have Daddy build a castle...a senior couple in their 70s from north Georgia wanting to walk the beach before sunset, just one more time...and a Father from north Alabama with his 2 sons wanting to try to surf the waves, perhaps the last time before he loses them to "teenagers"! Can't do since the oil has spread to the beaches. Yea I know these examples don't compare to the real sacrifices happening everyday, but I wanted you to know there are many, many more folks touched by this tragedy, where their precious family time together or alone cannot be replaced. MasterCard calls it Priceless. I just call it SAD.
I'm back on FOX 8 Wednesday at 5,9, & 10 PM.

We have reservations coming up for a condo in Orange Beach. Since you are there, what can you tell us? How bad is the oil? Is it tar balls or large areas of oil? Does it smell bad even when you're not on the beach but on your balcony? I have 2 small grandsons with allergies and would never want to harm their respiratory system. Thank you. S.B.B.
I agree Bob...The gulf coast "emerald coast" is the most beautiful of all and it is very SAD to see it ruined by the oil. Livlihoods of hotel owners, seafood restaurants, etc are all being affected, in addition to our shrimpers and other bayou people that make their living fishing. But....it could be worse. Let's just all pray that a hurricane doesn't come our way and push all of this oil up through the marshes and beaches and into our homes. We weren't allowed to come back for over three weeks for Katrina! Imagine how long it would be if oil were added to a great tidal surge!! It could be years before our land was considered "safe" again! Food for thought!!!
