Fiona in Western Gulf Saturday ?

Tonight the tropics are quite active with Hurricane Danielle now a Cat. 2(100 mph) storm followed by newly formed Tropical Storm Earl, a much weaker system (40 mph). The good news is both storms are forecasted to recurve long before reaching Florida and staying out of the Gulf. However, tonight"s VIPIR run continues to develop a weak system over the western Gulf by late Friday(along an old front over the Gulf) moving northward to near Houston on Sunday. IF something does form, we would be on the "wet" side of a possible Tropical Storm (Fiona). It's unlikely for this system to develop rapidly as lots of dry air is to its north. However, it could cause us some issues (gusty winds 20-30+,heavy rainfall 3-5") much likel Bonnie & Colin were supposed to do. Too soon to get concerned since there is nothing there tonight. Stayed tuned !

In da short term, Thursday looks mostly dry again with some coastal showers. Friday will see a few more PM storms with Sat-Sunday much wetter.

I sure do see some pretty deep convection and big clouds over the gulf just south of the LA coastline. What's up with that? I hope it doesn't interfere with my cruise out of NO tomorrow. Looks pretty earie!!! Anyone have any information on this weather down there???It doesn't look like it is moving much...
