Tropics About To Go Nuts ???

Satellite loops show a parade of storms coming off of Africa and moving westward out into the Atlantic. Danielle has formed an eye tonight and will likely be a Cat. 3 (125+) by Wednesday (little wind shear). Right behind her is probably Earl and then Fionna by the weekend. I would not be surprised to be tracking 3 named storms at once. It's happened before (I remember one year we had 4 going on at once) and we are nearing the peak(Sept. 10) of the season so this is not unexpected. The good news is an unusually deep east coast trough has developed and will protect the U. S for the next week. If this pattern keeps redeveloping, this could be the year when we see many storms but most recurve BEFORE they reach the Gulf. That would be nice for us.

In the short term, this trough will bring down a "cold" front off the Louisiana coast. The N-Shore will see night time lows dip into the 60s and even the South-Shore will feel better in the mornings with lower humidities. The excessive heat warnings have been cancelled for now. Mostly dry for the next 2-3 days.
P.S. No need to get out the sweaters !

OT sort of -

I found this fascinating article on Wikipedia about the 'Saxby Gale' in early October 1869 which was predicted (in general terms) 10 months in advance, based on what would be the positions of the moon and the sun relative to the earth in early October 1869:

I would love to know if there is any evidence of a correlation between the sort of astronomical conditions described by Lt Saxby and some of our other great hurricanes - Katrina, Andrew etc.

Well, you know me, I'm watching the tropics until the minute I set foot on the SS Triumph! (8/28/10) It looks to me like Hurricane Danielle may go WEST of Bermuda. There are some really tell tale signs that this thing is going WEST of the initial forecasting models. Am I the only one seeing this??? Bob and ONLYREAL, what about the system behind Danielle, what do you think will happen with that....Sure don't want to come home to an impending hurricane!
Happy swimming Burbon St. Hope your pool has cooled off with the rain we've had. Hey CAVEMAN, I have been waiting for you to put your two cents into the conversation. Where are you?
