Weak Low in Gulf moving inland...

So nice not to have to track any major hurricanes around us so far this year. Earl is gonna get closer to the U.S. east coast but all computer models curve it away before impacting the U.S. Fiona should be named Sunday, but she's way out in the Atlantic and long range compter models recurve her before reaching the U.S. East Coast. I like the pattern that appears to be established so far. Since the peak month for storms is September, there remains plenty of time for something to form closer to us, but I like our chances each day we get closer to October and those Fall cool fronts.

The weak low south of Lake Charles hopefully will be inland tomorrow. Pressures are rising around us, a sign that nothing is forming. We'll still probably see above normal clouds and showers on Sunday, but perhaps we'll see a few sunny breaks unlike on Saturday. Remember Katrina tomorrow.

Remembering Katrina...

Remember turning on Bob on at 6AM to hear she was Cat 5 with 170 mile winds...I woke my wife and said we needed to go...it took 9 hrs to drive to Jackson MS. Only to head out the day after Katrina hit Jackson and spend to Sept 30th in Huntsville, AL.

That travel day along I-20 there were so many trees cut at the shoulder of the highway just to open it up, I wondered if I even had a house back home.

The people in Huntsville were fantastic, they took a tragic event and made it a humbling experience.

We were with 12 other families and friends and we all made the best of it there.

I longed for home when we left, I didnt care what my home and home town looked like, I was ready to take it on. I so remember hearing Simon and Garfunkel's "Homeward Bound" the day before we left and tears just fell as the song played on.

Oh that drive across Lake Ponchartrain after a long drive home was so erie looking...In New Orleans it was pitch black and on Metairie side a lot of lights and life...

We drove down Cleary Ave to get home and there was debris piled everywhere, unbelievable...oh it was good to see my home had past the test of mother nature.
