Fall Feeling Coming...

While out walking our dogs tonight, I already could feel a change in the air. No longer suffocating, no longer oppressive, no longer disgusting...just comfortable...and that's just a preview. By Sunday morning N-Shore will be upper 50s to low 60s. S-Shore away from the Lake will be 65-68 and it's only the first week in September. Don't get used to it as that summer feel returns in force by Monday along with the threat of rain.

The tropics for us remain quiet as the pattern of recurving storms before they reach the U. S. seems well established. Gaston is gone but a new system moving off of Africa is predicted to be the next named storm (Hermine) that could threaten the east coast in 10-12 days. Stay tuned !

Enjoy you weekend OUTDOORS !

I think that the NHC had the track right for Earl (or the computers did) well in advance for this storm.. Good job. I just thought N. Carolina was going to get clobbered. Can't wait for the good feel air this weekend!

Computers pretty much do 90% of the forecasting for all meteorologists from NHC down to local TV weather folks.

The computer statement may be true. But without programming, which is done by human, the computer would be a worthless pile of plastic and silicon.

Humans have to program all the code in. Humans have to come up with the algorithms necessary. Humans could do the forecasting alone as well but the computer crunches the millions of numbers a lot faster.

Very true except 99.99% of the meteorologists using those computer models didn't write the programs and have no clue how to. Without the models many if not most would be lost and would only be able to give a very short forecast of just 2 days at best.

I believe the forecasting "experts" are handing out names to anything blowing a breeze just to catch up with their over-revved predictions. Colin never should have been named and neither should Gaston. By rights we should have been tracking Danielle up the east coast.

Looks like the NHC isn't quite writing off Gaston yet. Not sure what the 8pm advisory will say, but it has had a heck of a day.

Colin should have never been named? That is like saying a tornado should never have been called a tornado because it only touched down for a few minutes and didn't do any damage.

Is it just me, or does Anonymous sound a lot like CAVEMAN? Maybe there are 2 CAVEMANS out there? Twin brothers? 2nd cousins?
