No Signs Of Fall...Near Record Heat !

In the spirit of this blog, I will ask my son to remove any of you who continue personal attacks. Nothing gets posted until approved by him. Opinions are welcomed, as long as they don't get personal. Thanks.

With the Autumnal Equinox arriving Wednesday night at 10:09 PM, one would hope we would start the usual Fall cool down...but, nooo...not happening this week. Tomorrow will mark 15 straight days of above 90 for highs...not record heat (96 in 2005) but way above normal (86). With no signs of any real cold air for 7-10 days, the concern will be that our hurricane threat might continue well into October as water temperatures are still in the middle 80s. Just looking at our record lows(52 in 1981), we should, historically, be seeing some stronger fronts this coming week, but not this year. There is NOTHING currently out there (Gulf, Caribbean or Atlantic) that should concern us. As Dr. Masters said on his blog, several models have been flopping around trying to develop something in the next 5-7 days...but he concludes these models have proved UNRELIABLE beyond 7-10 days. If the atmosphere can take a breather after Igor, Julia & Karl ( Lisa possibly way out in Atlantic), maybe we can get deeper into October and the cooler air along with the upper level westerlies to feel safer from any hurricane threats this year. Remember what Yogi said, "...the party is not over until the Fat Lady sings." Well that Lady may be walking up on stage, but she hasn't sung yet. Translation...too soon to let down our guard. Stay tuned!

Well, I have definitely noticed cooler mornings and evenings. Middle of the day is a different story though! Fall can't make it down to the "BIG EASY" soon enough for me. Hopefully LISA, which I imagine is the next storm just leaving the African coast, will follow the path of her predessors and not affect any land masses! BOB, thank you for all of your expertise and "light hearted" forecasting. You are just what our city needs and we are very thankful to have you! NASH would be proud!!!!
