NHC made Trop. Storm Tomas the 19th named storm this year leaving only 2 names left on the 2010 list. If more than 2 storms form in November, NHC will do what they did back in 2005, start naming them after the Greek alphabet...Alpha, Beta, Gamma etc. We are now tied for the #3 spot for seasons with 19 named storms. Only 1933 (21) and 2005 (28) are ahead of us. As Dr. Masters said on WeatherUnderground tonight, the years before satellites (mid 60s) probably had some storms that were missed and not included in the records. That doesn't happen anymore. Tomas is predicted to become a Cat. 3 Hurricane as he moves thru the Caribbean. No threat for us as the Gulf is sealed off by our latest cold front and another front is coming for next week.
In the short term, a sprawling area of high pressure will make the last weekend of October delightful with chilly mornings but very pleasant afternoons. Halloween evening looks perfect the the kids & we hope the Saints play some tricks on the Steelers in the Dome ! Enjoy your weekend and get outdoors.

Talk about hairy scary!!! Who was that bearded man from Fox 8 on the big dome screen on Halloween night....Probably one of those 19th Century Miners from the steel mines???
But I could've sworn it was one of those guys from ZZ Top too....He definitely had one crazy forecast!!!
Great Costume Bob and good to see you psyched for Halloween...the crowd loved you...
Good too see some rain coming and some colder temps for the weekend....
We only really had 1 named storm, all the rest the NHC named to hit their numbers.
Can't wait till hurricane season is finally over! Thank god we did not have a busy year here on the gulf coast.
