Let the Games Begin...
Will it freeze? Will we see snow? How about an Ice Storm? The good news is we don't have to evacuate for any of those! Hurricane Season 2011 now is officially gone! We can focus on winter type weather that is often an inconvenience, but rarely destructive like a Hurricane. In a La Nina Winter, the South is "usually mild and dry". That is not always the case. Looking out for the next 7-10 days, models are conflicting each other and flip flopping each day. Pretty much all say cold air will invade the lower 48, but how far south will it come? After tomorrow morning's freezing temps, I don't see that returning any time soon. A real warm up will have us in the 70s for Saturday & Sunday but back into the 50s behind the front by Tuesday & Wednesday. The core of the cold will stay to our north...at least for next week.

yeah, 12z GFS showed a MAJOR actic blast moving down around the rockies by Dec 10th... -20 degrees in Colorado?!?!?! now thats cold stuff... maybe some of that cold air will wait and come down for Christmas weekend :) I'm dreamin of a white Christmas... (usually stays in my dreams, though haha)
Albany SnowMaker:
Don't forget about our white Xmas in December 2005 (just before Katrina). Never say never but keep dreaming cause dreams are what keeps hope alive :)
Have a great day and I'll pray that we get that white xmas after all.
Bob what is the winter outlook going to be this year for New Orleans?
Nashette the snow was Christmas Day 2004...Always thought, if its going to snow here, its going to happen in December. In 1989, 2004 and 2008, it all snowed in December. Not sure why that is usually the case for us.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for some December Snow...
00z GFS puts REALLY cold air coming down around Sat Dec 10th... 20s covering most of the state by that Morning, and not getting too far in the 40s during the day.... BRRRR... bring it on!! :)
The NWS discussion from Sat afternoon hinted at the possibility of a Gulf low at the end of next week?? Hmmm... :)) what's your thoughts on that, Bob?
