They Can't Handle the Truth...
Several of you have told me I'm one of the 55 TV Broadcasters who have been cited by a web site called "forecastthefacts.org" as "deniers/skeptics" regarding AGW. This web site is trying to intimidate weathercasters into buying into the "consensus" of climate modeler's THEORY that CO2 is the DRIVER of our current warming CYCLE. Can you imagine some group creating (and funding) that web site in an effort to destroy the credibility of these (mostly) long time TV broadcasters? C'mon, how do you think we have earned our viewer's trust? Could it be that our EDUCATION (most of us have B.S degrees in Meteorology) + EXPERIENCE = TRUST. Do you really think some web site could impact our viewers? Wow, the height of arrogance. If the THEORY was true, then data would back it up. But the models grossly over forecasted the increase in both temperatures & sea level rises. The movement started off as GLOBAL WARMING, but when the warming slowed, the cause was shifted to CLIMATE CHANGE and now it's being called WEATHER EXTREMES. We will find out soon enough if the current slowdown in cooling is real or not. If it is, what will they change the cause to? WEALTH TRANSFER? FYI...I have been a registered Independent all my life. I am concerned about the future of our Planet, especially the feeding of the poor. I don't think the poor care about a carbon foot print.

I had to go see for myself. They lost credibility for me as soon as I read the header about GM. I can't figure out how GM, a for profit, publicly traded corporation, is using public tax dollars to fund anything, let alone Heartland Institute. Unless, they figure it was done with the bailout money they received. Even then, that's a bit of a stretch.
I did stick around long enough to see your name with a quote they are using. Ultimately, it's just another website pushing an agenda and making an ineffective attempt to rally people to their side in support of a dying cause.
Some variation of climate change has been hyped more or less continuously for over a century. The New York Times scaremongered about the upcoming ice age back in 1895. It switched to warming, then cooling, back to warming in the 50s - check Youtube for a Frank Capra propaganda film, Unchained Goddess, that makes several of the same claims Al Gore now makes - cooling in the 70s again, and now warming. The difference in the current cycle where it's gone well beyond media hype is that it's politically profitable, and financially profitable, what with carbon trading, "green" subsidies, and grants to scientists.
The thing is, in real science, people show their work. Real science is duplicatable. Real scientists do not hide and destroy data, conspire in emails how to evade Freedom of Information Act requests, and game the peer review system. The climate change crowd has done all these things, and that's one reason people are no longer buying the hype.
The header at the very top of their web page reads: "Over 50% [of US television meteorologists] deny human-induced climate change". They then go on about how important it is to get these meteorologists to tow the line and "admit" that the activities of man are changing the climate.
If that isn't the most disingenuous thing I've ever heard! They openly state and admit that a MAJORITY of television meteorologists, men and women with degrees in meteorology and with, unquestionably, centuries of combined experience between them disagree that CO2 is the driving factor. Then, go on to arrogantly say we've got to make this majority to the line and preach our message! (Read: fatten Al Gore's bank account!)
The entire web site reads like a thrashing act of desperation by a group who's scam upon the American Public is finally being seen for what it is.
As Laura said, the media has been claiming for over a century that mankind is either dangerously warming or cooling the planet. There's always someone who stand to make money behind these claims.
Well said my friends. Incidentally,it has come out that the fella who exposed e-mails stolen from the Heartland Institute actually made them up. Again, if the "truth(data)" doesn't fit their agenda, they make it up.
Three cheers for Bob Breck! I'm getting the same treatment here in Grand Rapids (two of our meteorologists got critical emails from "viewers" that we traced back to Forecast the Facts!) and I'm fighting back (I just carpet-bombed their facebook page with some corrective comments). I've been a TV meteorologist for 38 years and I'm not going to be intimidated by George Soros and his hired guns....Bill Steffen, Chief Meteorologist, WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids MI.
