Severe Weather Outbreak Coming?
Our 80 degree warmth in February gets me worried that we may again see a very active severe weather season across the Gulf South, maybe as bad as last year. In the next 10-14 days, we'll see some of the bitter cold that has remained way up in Canada dive into the Rockies and then head eastward colliding with the unusually warm, moist air streaming up from the Gulf. I fear a widespread outbreak of tornadoes will develop, not once but several times during the month of March continuing into April. Hopefully the storm track stays well to our north and keeps most of the nasty weather up away from us. Just a heads up as an active pattern is developing.

Cudos to the Storm prediction Center for alerting days in advance & pinpointing the areas that received the severe weather. My question is this. Why in this age of better forecasts, better warnings & better high tech means of communications are so many people being killed? Some could argue that the tornadoes are stronger. Perhaps so, but my take is that building codes/construction are not strong enough in most of the U.S. Why? Obviously the higher costs. But we know we can build hurricane & tornado resistent homes. Everything always goes back to money and that is sad. Insurance companies, instead of adding a 2% hurricane deductible to our policies, could instead add a 10% yearly discount to those who retrofit they homes to make them stronger. But alas, that makes too much sense as both sides would be winners.
