As previous blogs have stated…I’m expecting a 2-3 week burst of activity in the Tropics…and that has begun. Trop. Storm Gabrielle was named tonight and will bring flooding rains to Puerto Rico. NHC turns the storm to the NE away from the U.S., however, the GFS (American) model actually develops 2 separate systems and has Gabrielle stalling out over the Bahamas before drifting westward late this weekend. The other system (Humberto?) turns to the NE, but it too starts drifting back towards the East Coast. I don’t foresee any problems for the Gulf, but this has been such a strange year that I won’t be surprised if the various models struggle with these systems. NHC also cautions about a possible development in the extreme southern Gulf the next 2-3 days, but there appears to be too much upper shear & if organization happens, it’ll mainly move westward into Mexico. Stay Tuned!
Locally, the last weak front has about dissipated over south LA/MS and while we wait for our 1st REAL cold front, expect more spotty PM Storms (Slidell & Kenner both received 1”+ today) along with summer like heat into next week.
