Stuck on Nine...

We have been stuck on 9 named storms since Ingrid formed in early September.  Models are indicating IF we see any tropical activity in the next 5-10 days, 1) it will be east of Florida and 2) it will stay far offshore.   That makes me believe we will not see an “evacuation type” (Cat. 3+) Hurricane affect Louisiana or Mississippi for the rest of this 2013 season.   Why?   Same models are developing a deep east coast trough for late NEXT week with a strong cold front finally bringing sweater weather here by Oct. 5th or 6th.  The deeper we get into October, the faster the upper westerlies (shear) blow so even if a system formed over the Gulf to our south, it would be steered well to our east.   Hurricane season may not be totally over for us, but it appears the early predictions for an active season clearly are in error.  No complaints here. Stay tuned!

In the short term, we’ll stay almost hot but October is only 5 days away!
