That’s the big question tonight. The latest date in the “modern “ era for formation of the 1st hurricane is Sept. 11, 2002 at 7 AM (Gustav). There are 2 Tropical Storms out in the Atlantic tonight and based on satellite loops, I would hope NHC waits until after 7 AM to upgrade either. They have no hurricane hunters to precisely measure the low level winds way out there so why not wait and break the record? I say records are made to be broken. Latest NHC advisory keeps Humberto just below hurricane strength (70 MPH). Yippee! Stay tuned!
Locally, we are still way too hot with little relief for the next 7-10 days. However, models are predicting an area of low pressure will develop down over the extreme southern Gulf by late Friday (could become Ingrid?) and move inland over Mexico south of Brownsville, TX by early Sunday. That low could actually drag a “backdoor” cool front thru us on Saturday making us a little less humid before Gulf moisture surges back over us for early next week. Still waiting for the 1st real chill, but it’s at least 10+ days away.
