Humberto Will be 1st Hurricane

Just looking at tonight’s satellite loops clearly show an organizing & strengthening tropical system just west of the Cape Verde islands.   In the modern satellite era, the latest forming hurricane was Hurricane Gustav on Sept. 11th, 2002.  That mark should stand as Humberto should reach hurricane force on Tuesday.  It’s sooooooo far out in the Atlantic that I’m not even going to track it.   Relax.  Closer to home, models are suggesting our next name storm (Ingrid) will develop over the extreme southern Gulf late Friday or Saturday.  It should not affect the northern Gulf except to increase winds & seas offshore as it moves inland into Mexico well south of Brownsville.   The remains of Gabrielle appear to be getting better organized south of Bermuda as she heads NNE.   So far it’s been a hurricane season far below the expectations of all the “experts”.  Stay tuned!

Locally, on this 48 anniversary of Hurricane Betsy we have nothing in the Gulf.  In fact, with a strong upper ridge to our north, we’ll be protected for the rest of this week just in case something were to form.   Rain chances will stay slim until late in the weekend so expect more 90+ highs.   Ugh!
