Freeze No More...

I went out to remove the coverings on the plants I wanted to save from this week’s hard freeze and was pleasantly surprised to see most came thru OK.  A couple of the more tropical breeds did lose their leaves, but it appears their trunks/stems remain green.  I’m told by the plant experts not to do any trimming of dead parts until warmer weather produces new growth…otherwise you could over-prune your plants.  Are we done with the freeze threats for the Winter?  Hardly, since next week is , historically, the coldest week of the year and the hard freeze threat usually goes thru about Feb. 20th.  My feeling is we’ll have to cover our gardens several more times this season before Spring time arrives.  In fact, with the pattern we’ve seen so far, Winter may linger well into March. Stay tuned!

In the short term, we’ll see a dramatic warm up the next 2 days as highs rise above 60 on Thursday and maybe 70+ on Friday.   Dense Sea fog could develop ahead of our next cold front that will bring us a threat for some strong storms after midnight Friday & before dawn on Saturday.  The weekend should turn sunny, drier and slightly cooler.
