As most of you know, I was born & raised in Hammond, Indiana (18 miles SE Downtown Chicago) & thought the bitter cold of Winter (60s & 70s were brutal) was normal. I really didn't know any better until my 1st job took me to Tampa in 1971. Christmas day was 82 degrees and we were in shorts and tank tops! Couldn't go home that 1st Christmas...had to work. It was only then I discovered why God created the South. You could actually golf, jog, play tennis etc. without wearing 15 pounds of outer clothing required up North to keep you from freezing to death. Some folks love the cold...and that is why God created the North! Really simple isn't it?
This weekend will give us an early Spring preview as highs should top 70+ Saturday & Sunday. Enjoy it as we are nowhere near the end of getting more cold air. In fact, the long range computer models bring more ARCTIC CHILL (Polar Vortex 6) into the lower 48 by the 2nd week of February. Places like Chicago have already past their "average" seasonal snowfall totals and they still have 2 months to go. Locally, January 2014 was the 8th coldest on record for MSY. We had 9 days 32 degrees or below. Compare that to Chicago where they endured 17 days zero of below
