Those of us who live in the southern latitudes anticipate Spring since it usually means we can go back to wearing shorts, flip-flops & tank tops. Away with those heavy coats! However, as we all know, this past Winter has been way more brutal than recent Winters & I still expect we'll have more opportunities to wear our sweaters & jackets before the real heat arrives in May. Even though historically, MSY has had a 32 degree reading as late as April 9th, you should have planted your garden already as our plants need time to develop their root systems before the searing heat of summer arrives. In fact, all my "cold" annuals were planted back in October so they could develop sufficient root systems to survive the Winter chill...and survive they have! I have tremendous colors around my house like never before! In another 4-5 weeks the heat will begin taking its toll, but I'm enjoying what I have right now.
In the short term, a weak front will have little effect on us Thursday & Friday with plenty of sunshine and pleasant temps. Another front approaches on Saturday increasing clouds & rain chances for Sat. nite & Sunday. The rains should, hopefully. move out early on Sunday morning so the Irish-Italian parade has no rain. Stay tuned!
