A weak frontal boundary (leftover cold fronts) has pushed off the Louisiana coast with a well defined swirl of clouds offshore south of Lafayette. This reminds me of 1983 when Hurricane Alicia formed from an old weak frontal boundary that sagged into the Gulf. 2 big differences tonight. 1) time of the year...Alicia formed in mid AUGUST when the Gulf water temps were at their warmest and 2) Wind shear over the Gulf tonight is very strong making for a hostile environment for any tropical development, where as back in August of 1983, there was little winds shear over the central Gulf and Alicia was allowed time to develop. As I have said before...wind shear is KING and trumps any other weather conditions (water temps, tropical waves) favorable for tropical formation.
Happy Father's Day to all who qualify. My Dad died back in 2001 at the age of 80. Time has healed his loss, but his memory last forever. "Mr. Personality" is why I am who I am. Thanks Dad.
