TUTT Remains King...

Harvey has seen an amazing decline since yesterday & NHC now says he no longer has a closed circulation.  The other 2 potential tropical systems aren’t doing well either.  What the heck is going on?  Well if you look at the water vapor loop, you see many upper level lows across the Tropics.  It’s called the TUTT (Tropical Upper Tropospheric Trough) and it provides high shearing winds that generally hinder tropical development.  None of the long range models are predicting any threats in the Gulf for the rest of this month.  That is encouraging, however, we all know September has brought some major hurricanes and we have a long way to go before we can say relax.   For now, all is quiet.

In the short term, a well-defined upper low has moved over the eastern Gulf.  As it heads to the west, it should mean more  storms will bubble up during daytime heating.  Hopefully, that should keep highs from reaching today’s 96.    August…not much good to say about it.
