With no more storms coming off of Africa & Jose & Maria east of Florida, Our “Fat Lady”(Mama Clash) has decided to call for an UBER (She couldn’t remember where she last put her car keys!) and head on to the Sanger to sing her song. With no model indicating tropical development in the Gulf for the next 7-10 days, it is getting more likely that we have dodged any major hurricane threat for this season. 10 days put us into October and models are back on bringing our next real cold front by next Friday or Saturday. Sure we could still see a storm in October, but increasing upper westerly winds & cooler water temps. will limit how strong any storm can reach. We’re far from done watching the Tropics, but it’s comforting to know history is on our side once into October.
Hurricane Maria is back up to a Cat. 3 as she moves away from Hispaniola. Most models recurve her east out to sea while a few sneak her very close to the Outer Banks. The waters north of 35 degrees cool rapidly along with increasing SW wind shear that should slowly decrease Maria’s intensity. The videos coming out of Puerto Rico are truly depressing. Life in all the islands hit will not be the same for many, many months. Tourist’s income needed to run the islands will be gone. Hopefully, the bigger resorts can rebuild quicker & in time for the winter tourist season, For many people, the hardships will be enormous. As always, The United States will be the leader in assisting & rebuilding homes, schools, stores etc. My mantra remains…Rebuild stronger.
Fall officially arrive Friday afternoon, but we’ll remain feeling summer-like well into next week. Our next front should arrive on Friday bringing cooler, drier air for NEXT weekend. Stay tuned!
