Tired Of Tracking, Tired of the Heat...

In seems we have been tracking some type of tropical system for the past 2 months…and we have.  Beginning with Gert back in mid August, we have followed a named storm for the past 7 weeks.  Enough already!  Maria is still a major hurricane tonight and is expected to slowly move northward and weaken over the next 5 days.  She should stay far enough offshore keeping any major impacts east of the Carolinas.   Models are indicating our next real cold front will arrive on Friday finally cooling us down and bringing back the Fall feeling air.  The GFS model develops a tropical system over the western Caribbean in the 10-14 day time frame.  That cold front should act as a block for us keeping any tropical activity to our east.

In the short term, we have an broad upper low over the eastern Gulf that is creating a hostile environment for any development during the next 3-5 days.   As Maria’s circulation combines with this upper low, we should see our next front dive our way during next week.  Temps over the western states are quite cool with snow falling at higher elevation.  It’s too soon for sweater weather, but we need to end this current streak of 90+ degree heat.  Today mid 90s reached as far north as Minneapolis & Chicago.  It will take a while, but the cold is coming.  Stay tuned!
