We are in, historically, the hottest 2 weeks of the summer. We should be in the lower 90s every day and today was no exception (91). That was welcomed relief from the weekend’s mid to upper 90s as afternoon storms bubbled up during daytime heating. However, here we are after 10 PM and storms are still bubbling up. That tells me we have an upper disturbance that will enhance our rain coverage for the next several days. These will be typical tropical downpours that can dump 1-3” of rain in less than an hour. By the weekend, the Atlantic Ridge/Bermuda High will build in from the east reducing our above normal (60-80%) pattern back to more typical (30-40%) coverage. Just keep the umbrella handy.
The tropical Atlantic remains “dead” as models have no activity for the next 10-14 days. IF something were to develop, it would be off the SE U.S. Coast or over the Northern Gulf along old frontal boundaries. We are nearing the heart of the Hurricane Season so the next 6-8 weeks will be the time we need to pay attention. For now we can relax. Stay tuned!
