Ring of Fire Continues...

I keep hearing Johnny Cash singing…”And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire, the ring of fire.    On a weather map, that ring refers to clusters of storms (fire) rotating around a big ridge of high pressure (the ring) in the upper atmosphere.  Underneath the upper ridge, clouds and showers are non-existent with temperatures soaring with the intense July sun. DFW topped out at 107.  We should have another active day of clouds and showers on Thursday before the upper high shifts eastward for Friday and Saturday.   Thursday’s highs could stay below 90 again while Friday should return to the lower 90s (normal) before Saturday peaks out in the mid to upper 90s according to numerical computer guidance.   This burst of heat should be short lived as an unusually deep east coast trough develops squashing the upper ridge back to the west .  Next week could get interesting as several models are forming a cut off upper low over the Florida Panhandle and bringing  it our way for Tuesday & Wednesday.   That should increase our rain chances resulting in less hot temps.   An interesting sidebar, as the trough develops over the east coast, several models are hinting at low pressure forming along the Carolina coast moving NNE towards Long Island & New England for the weekend.   That is the only thing tropical-wise showing up on long range computer guidance in our part of the world.  The Pacific is forecasted to get active again, but not around us.   This has not been an exceptionally hot summer compared to 1980, 2011, 2015 & 2016.  In fact I think it was the summer of 1980 where Dallas had 42 straight days (6 weeks or 1 ½ months) of 100+ high temps.   Now that’s ridiculous !!!  Stay tuned!
