August Drags On & ON...

Geez, we’re not yet halfway through August, but it seems like we’ve been here for months.  That’s because we have felt like August ever since late May.  What this torture does is make us appreciate the cooler, great feeling air when it finally arrives next month.   Think of San Diego.  They have great weather for 300-330 days each year.  How can they really appreciate how great that is?   It’s only when you’ve been in the deepest, darkest valley (summer in the Deep South) can you appreciate how glorious it is on the mountaintop (Fall & Spring).   It is a rare day in August when there are no showers around.  What that means is we get way too hot (95) without the cooling rains from the PM storms.  Tuesday looks to see a repeat as the center of an upper high is parked just off the SW Louisiana coast and any storms are being steered around this ridge.   Later in the week we should see higher rain chances, but even then it’s only back to our typical daily T-Storms.

The good news is the tropics remain dead in our part of the World.  There are several waves coming off of Africa, but models are showing no development during the next 10-14 days.  NHC probably will waste another name (Ernesto) on a system way out over the central Atlantic that will never affect any land areas.    If we can stay quiet through August, perhaps some early cold fronts, coupled with increasing westerly winds, could steer all disturbances away from us.   It’s a good thought.  Only time will tell.  Stay tuned!
