Running Out of Stories...

Today was another mainly rainless day, which for mid-August is unusual.   As a weathercaster, I would find August into September the hardest time to keep people’s attention unless there was some tropical activity.   After all, how many different ways can you say hot & humid with a shower/storm.   You could say “stray” shower, or “spotty” showers, or “numerous” showers. But hot & humid is just that.  Oh sure, you could say “disgusting “ heat, or “brutal” heat, or “obnoxious” heat etc.  But eventually you run out of ways to say we miserable.  Today’s high was 95 since we had no rain and stayed mostly sunny.  Still, I did not find it all that bad on the golf course as we had a breeze and it felt less humid.  Dew Points were lower (60s), but that is not likely to last beyond Wednesday.   Look for basic summertime to return, meaning PM Storms bubbling up during daytime heating resulting in less hot highs.   Kind of interesting in the model runs at 10-12 days out as they hint at a weak cold front dipping down to the Gulf coast.  Nah, we won’t get colder, but we might get some drier air filtering down resulting in cooler nighttime temperatures, especially on the North Shore.   6 weeks till October…tick, tick, tick!

The tropics remain dead except way out in the north central Atlantic where NHC will probably name our next “sub-tropical” storm (Ernesto) tomorrow or Thursday.   It will be a waste of a name since this system will not threaten any land.  Stay tuned!
