Better Than No War At All...

Can you imagine being a forecaster down at NHC?   You train and work towards protecting the folks from the worse of Mother Nature (Hurricanes) but nothing happens for weeks and weeks.  So I can understand why they put out a statement regarding an upper low way out in the central Atlantic having a slim chance for development during the next 5 days.  They truly are bored.   Reminds me of Marine Corps boot camp back in 1970 when one of my Drill Instructors (DI) said…”we have a small war in Viet Nam now, but it’s better than no war at all”.  At the time I really didn’t understand that thinking.  Later, I realized there is a need for those “special forces” that can defend our country when we are attacked.  They train hard all the time and, if there is no conflict, many of them are “bored”. (many others thankful)    It might not be a good comparison,  but my point is a trained forecaster wants something to forecast.   Hence, NHC is following that upper low that could show some development as it is over some of the warmer waters of the Atlantic.   None of the models bring this system towards any land areas and I suspect it’ll just wander out in the Atlantic giving NHC something to do.  The Eastern Pacific has all the action with 4 systems to follow.   Hurricane Hector appears to be on a course that will keep it south of Hawaii while the others never affect land areas.

Locally, we saw above normal clouds and showers today resulting in highs staying below 90.  I know many golf & tennis matches along with outdoor birthday parties were affected, but I enjoyed the break from the extreme summer heat.   Sunday will again have more storms around before we tend to see fewer storms for Monday & Tuesday.  Stay tuned!
