The Fat Lady has been called...

Today’s long range model runs are indicating several cold fronts will finally start arriving here during the next 2 weeks.  The first could reach us around Wednesday of next week with a stronger front plowing through during the first week of October.   This is great news for all of you wanting an end to this last Summer heat wave.  In fact, I placed a call into the “Fat Lady’s” agent to make sure she’s available to sing during the first week of October.  If these fronts start coming, I’m encouraged that we could be done with any major storm threats for 2018.   Tonight what’s left of the remnants of Isaac are pushing across the Yucatan as a tropical wave and it shows no signs of reorganizing.  Farther out in the Atlantic several hundred miles SE of Barbados, there is a swirl/spin  with some T-Storms around it and NHC gives it only a 20% chance for development.   As I mentioned in previous blogs, the MJO has gone into the sinking air mode and that is why the tropical Atlantic has gone to sleep.   It is expected to return to the rising air mode for the last week of this month into early October and that is likely to cause another burst in tropical development.  However, IF we start seeing cold fronts push down into the Gulf, they would block/steer any storms to our east.   Not quite time to sing “turn out the lights, the party’s over”, but we could be getting close.

Locally, We still have to deal with near record heat.   Today was the 4th straight day of breaking records (97) at a time of the year when “normal” highs should be 87.   Don’t expect to see any major relief until next week, but the return of winds off the Gulf should mean more clouds & scattered showers that should make it less hot for the rest of this week.   Stay tuned!
