I have no change in thinking regarding next week's Arctic Outbreak. Models are bringing the core of the cold down over the Great Lakes with the zero line south of St. Louis & Louisville. They do not dig the upper trough down into the Gulf & that SHOULD MEAN we (SE LA/MS) will not see a hard freeze. But as I mentioned yesterday, it won't take much to sharpen/deepen the trough and have much colder air (than the models indicate) plow though us. In addition, some models keep hinting a Gulf disturbance could throw some rain/sleet/snow back into the cold air NEXT Thursday or Friday. One thing for sure, this will be the coldest air mass in many years/decades to invade the lower 48.
In the short term, a weak upper feature might bring us some clouds over night, but they should be gone early on Friday giving us another mostly sunny day. Much like today's low to mid 50s, if you're dressed for it, the dry, crisp feeling will make for a great day. A slow warming will happen Saturday into Sunday before we jump back to 70+ on Monday ahead of this next Arctic blast on Tuesday. Some showers will be along the front, but no widespread heavy rainfall is expected. I might bring my potted flowers back out of the shed Saturday PM before I return them late Monday ahead of the next blast. Stay tuned!
Driving on I-10 this morning and I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants. The Billboard read... " Hey Refs, one call, that's all!" Way to go Morris Bart!
