Mardi Gras 2019 Almost Perfect...

It's hard to believe that 3 years have past since my retirement (Mar. 2, 2016).   For 38 years, I HAD to work Mardi Gras covering parades and so, when my neighbor Jim asked me while walking Baily this afternoon..."do you miss it?", it was a quick answer without hesitation NO!   What my friends at all the TV stations have to do every Mardi Gras is difficult.  My day would begin with being at Ch. 8 at 7 AM and not end until after the 10 PM News.  That's 16 hours, like working a "double" in my youth at Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co.  Talk about being whupped!   So it's been rather enjoyable for me to just watch, able to switch channels during commercial breaks, seeing how each station is covering the parades.   Each station had its moments, but the one that stands out for me was watching David Bernard talk to the Archbishop & then to Gayle Benson, presenting her with a fake Superbowl trophy saying that we were robbed.  (David costumed as a robber)    Priceless!

Sure it was cold (52) today, but by 11 AM, if you could get out of the wind, the bright sunshine actually felt nice.  Another light freeze is likely tonight on the North Shore and away from Lake P. south, but Wednesday begins the warm up that'll last into the weekend.   In fact, looking up in Canada, there is no super cold building and this Arctic air mass might be the last one we see until next November.   We'll see many more cold fronts before the heat of summer sets in, but each future front will be moderated by longer days and higher sun angles.   I did bring some of my tender/tropical plants into my backyard shed, but I'll put them back outside tomorrow and hopefully can keep them out for the rest of what's left of Winter.     Look for 55-60 degrees for highs tomorrow, 65-70 on Thursday and 75-80 Friday into Saturday.   Our next front with rain chances arrives late Saturday into Sunday so we have a nice stretch of weather coming.  Next we have to start thinking about the weather for the St. Patrick's Day parade & Irish-Italian!  Stay tuned!
