Today's parades ended up with way better weather than forecasted. I'm told the 3 major NOLA parades rolled without any bands since so much bad weather was expected. Too bad since it's the bands that add to the Carnival atmosphere. Bacchus seems to be just dealing with chilly temps as all the rain is long gone. No more rain is likely until next weekend so Lundi Gras & Mardi Gras parades will roll dry. The big change is the temperatures. Today's high reached 80 but both Monday & Tuesday will struggle to reach 50, especially if we have some higher clouds to filter the sunshine. Add in brisk north winds and you'll need to really bundle up to protect from wind chills in the 40s. A light freeze is still likely on the North Shore on Tuesday & Wednesday mornings so gardeners will need to protect any tender plants they want to save. The large cold air mass is pretty extensive with single digits/below zero readings cover the Rockies eastward across the central Plains. One sign the longer days and higher sun angle are working their magic is the 25-35 below zero readings over Canada are gone. Sure it's still below zero but none of that super cold lingers. Several violent tornadoes developed this afternoon with some loss of life. We are in our Spring severe weather season which peaks for us in March into early April. I see nothing in the 5-7 day time frame that would bring us any threatening storms. Maybe next weekend we could see some strong storms, but nothing until then. Stay tuned!
My Colorado son tells me I-70 was closed due to an avalanche this weekend. The Colorado Rockies, just like much of the western states have tons of snow. There should be no water shortages coming this summer.
