It Better Rain on Thursday...

Watching all the local weathercasters tonight saw them singing from the same songbook.  Ch. 8 had 80+% for rain on Thursday, Ch. 4 90% & Ch. 6 had 100%.  My motto while working was "I'd rather be the only one right than wrong with everyone else".   Looking at the various model guidance, the SPC severe risk area & the local NWS discussion would have me singing the same tune...It SHOULD rain on Thursday.  What I would have stressed is 80 or 90 or 100% chance does NOT mean it will rain 80,90 or 100% of the TIME.   We could see many dry hours in between the scattered showers/T-Storms.  To me % means % of  coverage in our viewer area.  Translation...most, if not all of us will see some wet periods on Thursday.   The culprit is an upper air disturbance that will quickly pass farther to our north.   SPC expanded their level 2 (slight) risk area to include most of Metro NOLA for Thursday, but I still believe the upper system coming on Sunday will be stronger and closer to us.  Regardless, this is a perfect time to make sure you have the FOX 8 weather app on your phone.   If/when a warning is issued by NWS, an alert will come to your phone giving you the time to react if the warning is for areas around your phone.     What a powerful tool to have to keep you and your family safe.   After this 1st disturbance passes, Friday & Saturday won't be rain free, but the coverage should be much lower.  Temperatures will be warmer and it'll start to feel summer-like with the higher humidity.  Sunday could turn quite stormy, but we have plenty of time to watch & prepare.  Cooler & drier air returns by Tuesday and we should see another stretch of delightful weather for much of next week.  Stay tuned!
