Next Weekend Not As Nice...

After Thursday's downpours, this weekend we enjoyed 3 days of sunshine, warm but not hot temperatures and low humidity.  Low dew points (50s) allow night time lows to drop, but that is about to change as the next 4-5 days will have winds coming northward out of the Gulf.   An upper ridge will block any fronts from getting close until later in the week.  Look for the good feel air to flee and it'll start feeling more summer-like especially by Tuesday.   Only a slight chance for a stray shower for Wednesday PM & on Thursday with better rain chances coming for next weekend.   It's too soon to tell how bad the rain chances will be and what impact for the last weekend of Jazz Fest.   But RIGHT NOW, it appears it will not be as nice as this weekend.  Boo.

There is still a lot of cold (20s & 30s) air across the northern tier of states and I don't think we are done with seeing cold fronts.   Oh sure, they will not bring out the sweaters and jackets, but I think we could see several more fronts make their way down to us during the next 2-3 weeks.  Once beyond May 15th it becomes very difficult to have a front bring us any cold air.   Finally, just looked at the Mississippi River and it's still rising north of Memphis.   The Carrollton gauge will slowly approach 16.9' during the next 10 days.   Another round of heavy rainfall is expected this week and that will probably mean the river will stay above 15' for most of May.   Satellite pictures are just now showing clearing waters in Lake P. & Lake Borgne.   The dirty river water has really impacted the local fishermen ever since the Spillway was opened in early March.  Let's hope the Corps doesn't have to open it again.  Stay tuned!.
